Various groups of scientist are working throughout the world to explore the hidden mysteries of the nature. One of the branches, in an attempt to understand such mysteries is \u2018Heavy Ion Physics\u2019. Heavy nuclei consisting of quite number of nucleons, when subjected to energetic collision, nuclear matter assume the conditions which probably prevail at the time of supernova. In this paper we primarily study the interaction of ionizing radiation with matter, in particular the organic and inorganic materials. Initially the source and types of ionizing radiation and its effects on matter are discussed in detail.
