The main places of attraction and their distances from Guwahati:

Shillong (Meghalaya):  Shillong is a hill station in the northeastern part of India located at an elevation of 6449 feet and mostly surrounded by fog. This hill station is 100 Km away from Guwahati. Apart from the natural beauty, Shillong also acts as the gateway to Meghalaya, the state famous for heavy rainfall, caves, tallest waterfalls, beautiful landscapes and amazing people and their culture.

Kamakhya Temple (within Guwahati city): Maa Kamakhya or Kameswari is the renowned Goddess of Desire, whose famous shrine is located at the heart of Nilachala hills situated in the western part of Guwahati. Kamakhya Devalaya is considered as the most sacred and the oldest of the 51 Shakti Peethas on Earth.

Hayagriva Madahab Temple: This temple is 40 Km away from Guwahati. This is situated in Monikut hill of Hajo, Kamrup district, Assam. A most striking feature of the temple is the continuous row of elephants carved on the lowest level of the temple walls – a structure akin to the stone cut temple of Ellora. The outer walls of the shrine is also covered with relief figures of the ten incarnations of Vishnu, devotees in procession and episodic scenes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. There is a big pond known as Madhab Pukhuri near the temple.

Kaziranga National Park: Kaziranga national park is 193 Km away from Guwahati, situated in the Golaghat and Nagaon district of Assam, India. Kaziranga national park is famous for being the residence of ‘Big Five’ animals, ie, Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros, Indian Elephant, Royal Bengal Tiger, Eastern Swamp Deer and Wild Water Buffalo.

Manas National Park: Manas National park is 132 Km away from Guwahati city. It is located in the Himalayan foothills in western Assam. Manas National Park is a spectacular jungle and a very unique one. The National park also wears many hats for being a Wildlife Sanctuary, National Park, Biosphere hot spot, a Natural World Heritage Site, a Project Tiger, Project Elephant Reserve and also one of the better known birding areas in the world.

Majuli:  Majuli is a lush green environment-friendly, a pristine and pollution-free freshwater island in the river Brahmaputra, located 347 Kms from Guwahati. With a total area of 1250 sq. km, Majuli is the world’s largest river island and it attracts tourists from all over the world. Among one of the most surreal places in India, Majuli is also a strong contender for a place in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary: Pobitora Wildlife sanctuary is 45 Km away from Guwahati city. It is situated in the Morigaon district of Assam in the floodplains of River Brahmaputra. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is known for high one-horned rhinoceros density. The sanctuary sprawls in an area of 38.8 sq kms out of which 16 sq kms is inhabited by the one-horned rhinos. Apart from the rhinos, Pobitora is home to a variety of other animals like leopard, wild boar, barking deer and wild buffalo and about 275 species of birds and various reptiles species as well. The reserve is also supports two Critically Endangered, four Endangered, eight Vulnerable and three Near Threatened bird species.
